World Over, the rule of Law is sacrosanct and is the most assured way of consolidating the gains of any reform. Are there chances that the gains of the reform of the previous administration will be consolidated under the commitment to “the rule of law” by the current administration? click here

The case of failed banks raising funds through the capital market, the unfortunate incident with Cadbury and more recently, the collapse of the wonder banks in Nigeria all point to the fact that there is little or no protection for the vulnerable investor who is attracted by the promise of high yield on these investments. Is our Corporate Governance Code weak? Is the sector well regulated?

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE WOMEN’S DIALOGUE SESSION WITH DR.CHRISTOPHER KOLADE CON

We the under listed women of Nigeria, acting under the banner of the Women’s Anti-corruption forum jointly launched by The Convention on Business Integrity, Todayz Woman and True Love Magazine on the 23rd January, 2007.

Recognising that corruption has eroded our shared value system, destroyed our educational system, robbed women of the opportunity to lead in governance and entrenched in our system a culture of established succession through bloodlines, fraternity, social and old school ties instead of merit, capability and qualification. We have accepted the responsibility to be more active builders, moderators and intuitive managers in the discharge of our responsibility as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

We hereby resolve as follows:

  1. Women will contribute to and insist on transparent and accountable leaders in the Nigerian polity.
  2. That the women are determined to pursue the preservation of  values as a nation through our position as mothers, wives, daughters and sisters by speaking out in our different spheres of influence.
  3. Using the platform that The Convention on Business Integrity and the Business Action against Corruption presents, will form pressure groups to advocate for the change we desire in governance particularly in education, in the roles of parents and also in the re-orientating our youths and children.
  4. Role model women in every field of endeavor will be encouraged to play more active roles, to showcase themselves as examples rather than the more negative examples that are very easily publicized.
  5. Build social consensus through focus group discussions, present policy papers and use other platforms to ensure that more professional women are sensitized and motivated to join in making a contribution.
